Reflections and rotations

Reflect points and shapes in the x-axis or y-axis, rotate points 90° and 180° about the origin, and identify transformations from original and image coordinates.

Worked examples

Reflecting a point in the x-axis

Straightforward

Problem

Reflect the point A(4,3)A(4, -3) in the xx-axis. State the new coordinates.

Rotating a point 180° about the origin

Moderate

Problem

Rotate the point B(3,2)B(-3, 2) by 180°180° about the origin. State the new coordinates.

Identifying a transformation from original and image coordinates

Challenging

Problem

The point P(2,5)P(-2, 5) maps to P(5,2)P'(-5, -2). Identify the transformation.
